VOICE ON THE LEFT - CHALLENGING CAPITALIST HEGEMONY

[…] They have approached significant Marxist writers and activists and managed to engage them in conversations that trace elements of biography, theoretical and political formation, and the approaches of their interlocutors to current questions of theory and politics. It is not possible to do this successfully without deep and extensive knowledge of political and theoretical currents and traditions within the socialist left internationally. Precisely this is what Souvlis displays, and it makes this volume of interviews remarkably rich and significant. In conversations that weave in and out of philosophy, socialist feminism, psychoanalysis, anti-colonial struggles, political economy, and contemporary working class and social movements, one rarely feels that the depths have been skirted. On the contrary, the conversations transcribed here get to the heart of powerful and urgent questions of revolutionary theory and practice. But more than that, they provide a rare glimpse into the personal trajectories and political itineraries by which the interviewees came to these questions and debates. People with whose work we thought we were familiar take on new dimensions of social and historical embodiment, emerging as fully-fledged human beings rather than merely authors of texts.[…]
